Rehab Associates Foundation Mission Statement

The mission of the Rehab Associates Foundation is to:

             - Make physical fitness accessible to individuals of all ages, race, and level of physical ability

             - Increase the awareness of the benefits of being physically fit and making fitness a lifelong habit

Rehab Associates Foundation is dedicated to promoting fitness throughout the life span with particular emphasis on the youth in our community.  The population is aging and more Americans will be living longer, many with chronic health conditions or functional limitations.  Life expectancy is often used as a measure to gauge the overall health of a population.  Although the life expectancy has increased due to improvements in lifestyle, education, and advances in medicine, there are still many conditions that are on the rise including diabetes and high blood pressure. Obesity and overweight are risk factors in both of these conditions.

Obesity is rising at an alarming rate in the United States, especially in children, and is directly affected by exercise and diet.  Children need encouragement and support from their parents and educators to exercise.  By providing opportunities and accessibility to exercise for all ages in both competitive and noncompetitive atmospheres, and through education, we can promote improved health for our community.

Registration is now open for Fall 2011.  Registration closes September 2, 2011

"Running is Elementary"

Kentucky has alarming statistics in rates of an overweight and obese population, ranking 48th of the 50 U.S. states for overweight or obese children, with 37.1 percent of youth ages 10-17 being overweight or obese.  The  Rehab Associates Foundation has a short-term goal of establishing "Running is Elementary", a running program, in elementary schools in western Kentucky.  Our hope is that through running exposure, children will become more active and as they become adults encourage activity in their own children.

Description:  6-8 week after school running program for elementary school grades 2-5.  Student and supervisor printed material is available through Road Runner Club of America and will be provided at no cost to participating schools.

Cost to Participating School:  Zero

Obligation of Participating School:

                   - Promotion of program to students and families.

                   - Space for running and warm up activities

Co-Sponsors:

                   - Rehab Associates Foundation

                   - West Kentucky Runners Club

                  - Road Runner Club of America

Youth Run Events:

                         - Saturday, April 23, 2011, "FEAT On The Street"  Noble Park, Paducah Kentucky

                         - Saturday, June 18, 2011, "Lourdes Paducah Iron Mom" Half-Marathon, Downtown Paducah, Kentucky

                        - Saturday, July 16, 2011, UBS Fund Run for Charities, Noble Park, Paducah, Kentucky

We are seeking additional funding and hope to continue and expand our efforts with our area elementary schools.
